On the plateaus to the North of Castile, some of the best and most famous wines of Spain have been cultivated on an area of approx. 17,000 hectares for the last two centuries.
Favoured by the pronounced temperature fluctuations between day and night, highest-quality red wines of the varieties Tinta del País (Tempranillo), Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec are produced there.
Apart from famous names like Alejandro Fernandez (Pesquera del Duero) and Telmo Rodriguez (Remelluri), newcomers like Bodegas Vizcarra are impressive.
