This gorgeous historical region is characterised by its hilly landscape marked by pines, olive trees and vine shoots. It is no surprise, then, that Tuscany with its approx. 64,000 hectares of vineyard area, apart from the Piemont region, is one of the best-known wine-growing regions of Italy.
The countless microclimates and the different soil conditions favour a large variety of wine types. The main grape variety, to be sure, is the Sangiovese, accounting for a major proportion in Chianti. Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino are produced 100 percent from Sangiovese Grosso grapes.
The share of DOC and DOCG wines is approx. 45 percent, however, especially in Tuscany there is a high proportion of an IGT wine leaving the narrow DOC borders behind. They are, to be sure, in no way inferior in quality.
Famous wines, among others, come from Grattamacco and Le Pupille.
