The Abruzzi are marked by the Apennines, a mountain range stretching from the northwest of Italy down to the Adriatic Sea and reaching its highest altitude in the Abruzzi. At a height of 600 metres, winery owners grow an excellent, juicy wine on 35,000 hectares thanks to the moderate climate. The terroir is characterised by lime, pebble and clay grounds strongly heated in summer.
Typical for this region are the so-called pergolas, wooden sticks along which the vine shoots are growing, and which at a height of two metres divide into four arms. Thus they are protected against frosty conditions in winter and against the reflection of the strongly heated ground in summer. Above all Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Controguerra and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo are pressed in DOC (G) quality.
We should like to introduce the outstanding winery owners Nicodemi, Tenute Barone di Valforte and Edoardo Valentini.
