For more than 20 years now, German wines once more are ranking among the top-quality wines and are gaining the reputation they had until the beginning of the 20th century.
Beside the always internationally famous white wines, in particular the Riesling, the red wines, especially the Dornfelder, distinguish themselves as having extraordinary quality.
The German vineyard areas are located mainly in the south and south-east of the country, mostly situated on slopes and in steep areas of sheltered river valleys. The nevertheless comparatively cool climate with the necessary longer ripening periods is the basis for rather light and fruity wines with particularly distinctive aromas and flavourings.
