Chile

The wine culture prevalent in Chile since the 16th century was revived about 1985 thanks to the import of European wine varieties and a large-scale development of the cultivation areas.
In high-lying river valleys, often at an altitude of up to 1,000 metres, grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Pinot Noir thanks to the absence of phylloxera are frequently still growing on ungrafted vine shoots on some 115,000 hectares between the Pacific and the Andes.
The Segu vineyard regularly receives first-class ratings.
